Your Own Site

Contrary to what many people think, websites and blogs are easy to make. No, they’re not just for tech geeks. If you need help making a blog or website, you’re always welcome to email me or you can just leave a comment on the blog.

How To Make A Website or Blog

First you need a domain name. A domain name is yourname.com or yourname.net. Make sure to get a good one to build your blog or website on. You can buy a domain name at DomainShoe.com (my site), NameCheap.com, Name.com, or many other places. You should never pay more than $10 for a .com or .net.

Once you have your name, just point the DNS servers or Domain Name Servers over to your host. For example, if your host was fatcow.com, your nameservers would be ns1.fatcow.com and ns2.fatcow.com.

Second, you need a webhost. A webhost hosts the files that comprise your website so they can be online. Fatcow has a great deal going on: FatCow $56 Plan – Click Here for Moo Details!. This is about the cheapest price – $4.50/month – you will get. You shouldn’t pay more than $8/month for regular basic webhosting (there’s different levels of webhosting but if you’re a beginner, basic is all you need).

Once you have a webhost, just login to your control panel and then click add a domain. Once you’ve added a domain, just install wordpress on the domain name and you’ll have a blog ready to go. If you just want a plain html site, all you have to do is upload your files via the FTP server or file manager.

Very easy stuff. If you’re new and need help, Fatcow has live chat and email support. If you need more help, just email me!
